Franklyn B Paverty Franklyn B Paverty

Details of Franklyn B Paverty’s very first gig seem to be lost but original and current band member, Mal Bennett, thinks it was in the bar of the Canberra College of Advanced Education back in late 1974. Now, half of three score years and ten later and time to celebrate, we can look back on career highlights that include playing at the official opening of Australia’s new Parliament House as well as at its 10th and 20th anniversary celebrations, performing Aussie music for guests at a lunch in honour of visiting US President, George W Bush, frequently entertaining at The Lodge for the Prime Minister’s Australia Day festivities and sharing stages with such luminaries as The Dubliners, Billy Connolly, Eric Bogle, The Fureys, Gerry and the Pacemakers and Slim Dusty. Paverty (as the band is affectionately known) has appeared at most of Australia’s major music festivals, toured extensively, appeared on television and radio and produced a discography that lists nine albums (one of which was a 3-CD set), the most recent, 35 Years On: Our Selection, produced to mark this significant milestone.

Allan Johnson Allan Johnson (Scot)

Scottish Folksinger & Songwriter (Guitar, Bouzouki, Octave Mandolin).

Allan Johnston's songs are strongly influenced by the Scots and Irish traditions and over forty years of participating in the Scottish folk scene.

Living in Edinburgh since 1971, Allan was introduced to the scene through Ayr Folk Club in the late Sixties and, his father being from Coleraine in County Derry, his frequent visits to Ireland since childhood have led to Ireland being the inspiration for many of his songs.

An accomplished singer and guitarist, Allan Johnston's songwriting talents are rapidly gaining recognition with Irish band Craobh Rua having recorded and adopted his song The Shore 'Neath The Tide as their band anthem, and the late Paddie Bell of Corries fame having included a number of his songs in her repertoire.

Spirit of the Glen Spirit of the Glen

"Follow the Spirit" - Glen Innes based Skye McKenny and Col Pike share a life-long love of folk music and in 2002 came together to form Spirit of the Glen. Their 3rd CD was released in May 2009.

The duo bring great harmonies and a good selection of instruments to their extensive repertoire which includes traditional, original, celtic and contempory songs and tunes as well as those of the folk revival era. They also enjoy dragging in tunes from other less obvious sources, especially from the 60's and 70's, and applying their own treatments. The music of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane and the Rolling Stones, to name just a few, has all suffered this fate as has that of AC/DC!

Spirit of the Glen were Winners of The Australian Celtic Festival 2009 Triquetra Award.

The Amazing Three The Amazing Three

Paul Buckberry, a.k.a Buck, is part hoodoo man, part truck driver, part nifty blues guitar player. He lives by busking old Carl Perkins tunes and selling CDs that he claims are hallucinogenic and more mind-liberating than sex. He met Deanne Dale, a.k.a. Deanne, in 2007 at a kazoo workshop at the inaugural Choir-Sluts Festival in Wombat, NSW and was instantly smitten with her glorious pipes and well-shaken egg. Together they began touring Australia, playing Country, Folk & Blues festivals between Woy Woy and Araluen.

In 2010 they lassoed the talents of Nick Williams of Torch-Song Country Soul Band fame, who adds mean blues harp, banjo and dobro to the mix. Together, they are "The Amazing 3" keeping the home fires of steamy blues & country twang alive and burning in the 21st century. Together they collaborate on Buck's original material as well as placing their own quirky arrangements on the classics. An award winning sound that draws deep on the roots of country, rockabilly, folk and blues music.

Jeanette Gillespie Jeanette Gillespie

Jeanette Gillespie was a regular visitor to Quinty in the 1980’s and early 90’s, but an eighteen year absence has made her heart grow fonder and she is really looking forward to returning and sharing some songs. She has been performing for over thirty years, as a soloist, with partner Duncan Brown, and as part of a variety of harmony groups. One such group, Simpson, Gillespie and Wright, had its debut performance at Quinty in 1993. Jeanette still has some of SGW’s Nice Noises CDs, but she has never got around to making one herself!

Jeanette is a veteran of folk clubs and festivals around the country, touching hearts and entrancing audiences with her fine interpretations of songs from a wide variety of songwriters. She also enjoys encouraging others to find and use their voices and has a great belief in the power and beauty of song. Now retired and living in Central Victoria, she helps to organise the Guildford Folk Club and the Guildford Banjo Jamboree, along with enjoying a number of other voluntary activities in the area and revelling in the country life.
