Folk Festival Chorus Cup provides an ongoing history of the
festival in song form. The winners each year have the name of
their "band" engraved on to the memorial cup.
Each year, attendees of the festival have the opportunity to write
and perform a song which reflects their experience of the
festival.
Rules for Contestants
- Lyrics
must be written during the festival to a recognisable tune.
- The
song must have a chorus
- It must
be performed by more than one person.
- No
instrumental accompaniment is permitted (and I am told this
includes the audience tapping their feet or performing other
percussion)
- Contestants
may be banned for bribing judges.
- Contestants
may also be banned for NOT bribing judges.
Rules for
audience
- Listen
respectfully
- Sing
along if you are moved to do so.
- Write
pithy and witty reviews and give them to the judges to
"assist" them with their judging
- Feel
free to hoot, hollar, cheer or jeer after the performance to
convey your feelings about who should win.
Rules
for Judges
- Be
willing to judge
- Respond
appropriately to offered bribes
- The
judges decision is final. Except if you decide it isn't.
Rules
for the MC
- Attempt
to be witty and interesting and supportive and funny!
- Make
sure everyone knows and abides by the rules.
- Read
out the best reviews to entertain the crowd
